RESPITE SERVICES

Respite Services

(OMRDD funded thru Medicaid Waiver and Family Support)

Spending time away from a child isn’t easy, especially when he or she has developmental disabilities. Knowing your son or daughter is left with caring, dedicated professionals in a safe, friendly environment can be comforting.  Respite offers parents or care givers an opportunity to take some time off from caring for their family member with a disability. These services can be used for visiting, errands, trips, or simply for a needed break. Respite staff should be trained in first aid, CPR, behavior management, interdisciplinary team approach, adaptive equipment and fire safety.  There should also be recreational and social events based on consumer interests, needs and capabilities.
