AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a method of communication used by individuals with speech and language disabilities. AAC is used by individuals whose speech is difficult to understand, or who are unable to use verbal speech. Yet they are cognitively able to know what they want to express. Individuals who might use AAC have Cerebral Palsy, Autism, ALS, suffered from a stroke, and others. These individuals will use gestures, sign language, communication boards, pictures, symbols or a combination of all of these. AAC is a tool that enables them to be understood.
