KARATE

Karate is an activity that is beneficial for all children, because it is a total-body workout that also requires focus and concentration.  Karate is especially beneficial for children on the Autism Spectrum because it addresses common problem areas for them, such as:

  • Balance, strength, and coordination
  • Sensory awareness and integration
  • Ritualized/self-stimulatory behaviors
  • Attention/hyperactivity
  • Socialization skills
  • Impulse control
  • Self-confidence
Karate addresses these areas through physical exercise, breathing exercises, structured group activities, structured partner activities, verbal encouragement and positive reinforcement and facilitating a sense of discipline and self-control.
